Eating foods that are in season go far beyond supporting your own health and wellness.  They support many other individuals in different ways.  Eating according to the season and eating local go hand in hand.

What’s the big deal?

  • It’s eating food at the peak of freshness!  It really can’t fail you.   You are able to consume all that nature intended when it yields a harvest.  This is when you get the most flavor and highestnutritional value for the be t price possible.  The freshest foods can only come from your “own backyard”.  This is why eating whatever is in season for your neck of the woods will benefit you all the more.  Eating local ensures that you will have a bounty of fresh foods at a great price with uncompromised nutrition!

It makes sense!

  • Local is the new Organic?  It is arguable that eating local may be just as good as or better than organic.  Yup this is a big debate in the food world right now.  The organic “Big Boys” of the farming market are found to utilize the same shipping methods as  conventional food growers.  No doubt that organic is good for you, but what is it doing to our environment?  Leaves one to ponder…  When you chose to eat local you are showing your support for small farmers in your area, people who are dedicated to
providing nourishment and sustenance within their own community.

Keeping your money where your mouth is…

  • Eating foods according to the season encourages you to keep your dollars where they’re at, in your local community or state.  It employs jobs and businesses which means becoming more self-sufficient and less dependent on importing.  This is important for both economic and environmental sustainability.  It is approximated that every dollar you spend shopping locally two times as much becomes re-invested back into the community.  The apple you purchase from a local farmer will recalculate itself many times over because local business make more local purchases.  Peace Pays People!!!
